The lava flowed this far, but no further. The highway used to go through,
but a lava flow 1983 destroyed the route.

Pressure Ridge in Kilauea Iki Crater

The surface of Kilauea Iki Crater has been pushed up places
and some of the cracks emit warm air or moisture.

Alter on Top Of Mauna Kea

From what I understand, offering are put on top and they fall through.
Periodically, a guardian comes up and buries the offerings in the base.

Keone'ele (Royal Cove)

The cove in front is where royalty would come visit.  The large wall
(pu'uhonua) seperates the royal compound.

Turtle With People Behind

Kahalu'u Beach is very popular with tourists, locals and sea turtles.
I was quite surprised that the turtles seemed undisturbed

Opaekaa Falls

I quite liked this waterfall because it's surrounded by lush jungle.  I shot
f18 (on a tripod) to try and get more of the water blur.  This is a short drive up
Highway 581, just before Kapaa.

Wailua Falls

Wailua falls is huge. Apparently people used to dive off rim into the pool below.
There is a turn off from Lihue to get there.

Church at Sunset

This is a church. It sticks out. It's me that's leaning. The location is an approximation at best.

Light House

Lighthouses always have such unique character. The building on the left is now a small
museum.

Mark Looking over Hanalei Valley

The large valley in front of Mark is actually a park.  They have it growing Taro root
because the large freshwater ponds create a food source for the bird life which
has been here for as long as man farmed Taro.
