These sea weeds remind me of fall leaves.  A lot of these plants are Rock Weeds and
Small Perennial Kelp.

Sand Dollar with Kelp on Top

Qualicum beach is a great sandy beach.  We found a number of Sand Dollars
(or shells) in the beach and sand.

Kelp

Kelp (I think this is called bullhead kelp) washes up everywhere.  I was surprised
to see so much of it washed up in once place, but I'm sure there are lots
of storms.

Knotted Kelp
This is Bull Kelp (Nereocystis luetkeana) - it dies every winter and washes up, or is eaten.
Species: Nereocystis luetkeana (Bull Kelp)

Knot Around Anchor
This is Bull Kelp (Nereocystis luetkeana) that has been dislodged from the bottom (you can see the anchor in the lower right hand corner of the frame) and become knotted and then washed into shore. This plant is an annual - it dies every winter.
Species: Nereocystis luetkeana (Bull Kelp)

Green Knot
The night before was a particularly high tide so things like kelp and old shoes were washed high up the beach.
Species: Nereocystis luetkeana (Bull Kelp)

Dead Mans Fingers
This is one of my favorites - I only found it growing on one rock. Also called Sea sacks, or Halosaccion glandiforme.
Species: Halosaccion glandiforme (Sea Sacs)

Rainbow-leaf
Mazzaella something, probably Mazzaella splendens. These plants are iridescent so the colors change as you move the camera around. It's also extremly slipery if you step on it.

Rock Weed
Otherwise known as Fucus gardneri. This is one of the most common seaweeds, found mostly in the high tide areas.
Species: Fucus gardneri (Rock Weed)

Short Sea Lettuce
Prasiola something. I found this plant growing at the highest limits of the tide, often near fresh water.

Chiton Under Kelp
This Chiton is a Black Katy Chiton - Katharina tunicata. The kelp is probably a Laminaria something, but there isn't enough information to make a solid identification.
Species: Katharina tunicata (Black Katy Chiton)

Mussels In Tide Pool
I like the three distinct colors here - the blue of the mussels (Mytilus californianus), the green from the surf grass (Phyllospadix somethings) and the pink coralline Algae (Corallina officinalis).
Species: Mytilus californianus (California mussel), Corallina officinalis (pink coralline Algae)

Stars On Rock
The vermilion star really caught my eye but the Ochre stars (both common morphs) are pretty nice. The seaweed is Sea lettuce. It could be one of 8 species (Genius Ulva) so I can't call it.

Species: Pisaster ochraceus (Ochre Star), Mediaster aequalis (Vermilion Star)

Perennial Kelp
There are two species of perennial kelp in our region so without checking the anchor shape (on the bottom) I can't identify which species this is.
