Black Eared Kite Turning
I really wasn't expecting to take photos of this bird - that is why the exposure is so off. I was walking in the area (actually taking photos of butterflies) and the bird flew - much further away than a bird in Vancouver does. I shot with what was set. Shooting a dark bird against an overcast sky is always a poor idea.
Species: Milvus migrans lineatus (black-eared kite)

Black Eared Kite
There were lots of large predators flying around the shores in Sai Kung. I believe I saw an Osprey at a long distance. The Black-eared Kites were by far the most common - later in the day I saw at least 10 from our position on the boat.

Flock Of Black Tailed Godwit
I was really hurting for light - 1/25th of a second really isn't enough to take a photo of a bird, ignoring that it's through an 800mm lens.
Species: Limosa limosa melanuroides (Asian black-tailed godwit)

Marsh Sandpiper
This bird happened to wander close enough that I got a nice photo of it.
Species: Tringa stagnatilis (Marsh Sandpiper)

More Birds
Those tall white birds (black legs, yellow bill) are great egrets. The smaller black and white birds are White-breasted waterhen.
Species: Ardea alba (Great Egret)

Cormorant Flying By
You can see all of the cormorants perched in the trees behind. Apparently their guano signifigantly changes the chemistry in the area.
Species: Phalacrocorax carbo (Great Cormorant)

Black Face Spoonbill
Everybody is excited about this bird because there is only a few thousand of them left in the world and only a few hundred come to Hong Kong. There was a flock of about 30 of them in a larger pond and a few individuals wading.
Species: Platalea minor (Black-faced Spoonbill)

King Fisher Fishing
This is 5 photos composited in photoshop. This tiny bird was repeatedly fishing (dumb fish) so I shot on each flight. Too bad I don't own a 1500mm lens.
Species: Alcedo atthis (European Kingfisher, Common Kingfisher)

40 Hong Kong dollars (about $6) and that pigeon could be yours (minus the features)

Bird Bar
The dark birds are Great Cormorants (there is a large colony in Mai Po). The taller grey birds are Grey Herons.
Species: Ardea cinerea (Grey Heron), Phalacrocorax carbo (Great Cormorant)

Bird Washing Itself
This is a special cage with a water pan in it. People bring their birds and use one of these cages to have them wash. What I want to know is often would a bird wash itself normally?

I suspect that the guy holding the cages is considering buying one of the two birds.
