Black-Capped Kingfisher
This is the closest this bird got. Once I started taking pictures it looked at me and then flew off.

Black-Capped And White-Throated Kingfishers
I was really thrilled to get two species of Kingfishers in the same shot. There is a bit of bridge here on the mud flat and the birds use the posts to look over the water in a stream below.
Species: Halcyon pileata (Black-capped Kingfisher), Halcyon smyrnensis (White-throated Kingfisher)

Collared Crows
There were four birds in this little flock. The flew through stopping at places looking for food. They didn't stay for very long.
Species: Corvus torquatus (Collared Crow)

Immature Greater Coucal
I've seen this species on most visits to Mai Po - usually startled in a tree flying away. It's large (larger than a crow) and really doesn't sit around for picture taking. This individual showed up in the closest mangrove, took one look around and promptly headed back into the mangroves. This is a poor photo, but I wanted a record that I at least saw it once.
Species: Centropus sinensis (Greater Coucal)

False Tiger Moth
I have seen these moths on my last few visit - they are large, brightly coloured and active during the day. I had tried taking photos while they were in flight, but they are so active I always failed. This trip I tried harder to find them on plants and had some luck!
Species: Dysphania militaris (False Tiger Moth)

Caspian Terns In Crowd
There were few terns and many seagulls, but the bright red bill makes them stand out.

High End Lenses
Because of the cream colour, I first thought this was all canon gear but looking, it's half Nikon. The nearest camera is a D2X (I believe) with a 500mm f/4D. The camera behind (with the camo on the lens) also looks like a D2 series camera, with the same lens. Behind that is two canons (with smaller lenses) and the final camera (lens pointing up) I can't identify. The front two cameras are on Wimberley Heads - while I've seen them on TV before (National Geographic specials and what not) it's the first time I've seen one in the flesh. This is gear.

More Birds
Those tall white birds (black legs, yellow bill) are great egrets. The smaller black and white birds are White-breasted waterhen.
Species: Ardea alba (Great Egret)

Cormorant Flying By
You can see all of the cormorants perched in the trees behind. Apparently their guano signifigantly changes the chemistry in the area.
Species: Phalacrocorax carbo (Great Cormorant)
