Peregrine Falcon
Shooting against a bright background doesn't help. This bird never really got close and of course it was moving fast.
Species: Falco peregrinus (Peregrine Falcon)

Caspian Tern Looking For Fish
These birds have a pretty dramatic dive after they see a fish.
Species: Hydroprogne caspia (Caspian tern)

Apparently they also sometimes catch fish at the surface by skimming.

Black Eared Kite Turning
I really wasn't expecting to take photos of this bird - that is why the exposure is so off. I was walking in the area (actually taking photos of butterflies) and the bird flew - much further away than a bird in Vancouver does. I shot with what was set. Shooting a dark bird against an overcast sky is always a poor idea.
Species: Milvus migrans lineatus (black-eared kite)

Black Eared Kite
There were lots of large predators flying around the shores in Sai Kung. I believe I saw an Osprey at a long distance. The Black-eared Kites were by far the most common - later in the day I saw at least 10 from our position on the boat.
Species: Milvus migrans lineatus (black-eared kite)

Juvenile Coopers Hawk Wings Down
Apparently Juvenile Coopers Hawks have yellow eyes while the adults have red eyes.
Species: Accipiter cooperii (Cooper's Hawk)

Two Vultures Circling
Two Vultures Circling. The internet has changed things. Back in the day, after a day of taking photos, I would hit the books and look up each bird I saw using the local guide books. Now I can use google images to find unique features and then work backwards to be sure I have the correct species.
Species: Sarcogyps calvus (Red-headed Vulture, Asian King Vulture)

Soaring
Yes, the wings are in focus, not the eyes. My bad.
Species: Diomedea sanfordi (Northern Royal Albatross)

Sun Through Feet
I like the sun lighting through the skin on the feet and the tail feathers. The bands on the leg are quite clearly visible.
Species: Diomedea sanfordi (Northern Royal Albatross)

Albatross Descending
I like the big bands on it's foot - those are there to recognize an individual without having to capture him/her.
Species: Diomedea sanfordi (Northern Royal Albatross)

Red-Wattled Lapwing Flying By
We really pissed this bird off by being here - it flew circles around us for the whole time.
Species: Vanellus indicus (Red-Wattled Lapwing)

Snow Geese Flying Overhead
I like the high contrast - I really wonder how that evolved. It's nice the sky worked out so blue.
Species: Chen caerulescens (Snow Goose)
