Male Common Merganser
This bird was fishing (diving) off the light house. I didn't see it come up with a fish in it's mouth - maybe it was after something smaller. Species: Mergus merganser (Common Merganser)

Male Bufflehead In Sunset Light
It's funny how much more detail you get in post than when you are looking with your own eyes. The eye is almost invisible in daylight. Species: Bucephala albeola (Bufflehead)

Black Eared Kite
There were lots of large predators flying around the shores in Sai Kung. I believe I saw an Osprey at a long distance. The Black-eared Kites were by far the most common - later in the day I saw at least 10 from our position on the boat. Species: Milvus migrans lineatus (black-eared kite)

Black Eared Kite Turning
I really wasn't expecting to take photos of this bird - that is why the exposure is so off. I was walking in the area (actually taking photos of butterflies) and the bird flew - much further away than a bird in Vancouver does. I shot with what was set. Shooting a dark bird against an overcast sky is always a poor idea. Species: Milvus migrans lineatus (black-eared kite)

Black Face Spoonbill
Everybody is excited about this bird because there is only a few thousand of them left in the world and only a few hundred come to Hong Kong. There was a flock of about 30 of them in a larger pond and a few individuals wading. Species: Platalea minor (Black-faced Spoonbill)

Red Turtle Dove In Palm Tree
There were a few doves around the resort - mostly in the palm trees. They seemed to be nesting, but I couldn't get a good angle to verify that. Species: Streptopelia tranquebarica (Red Turtle Dove)

This small bird hit a window and landed on the deck. He hung out for a few minutes and then flew off. I hope it was just dazed. Tags: bird
