Perennial Kelp
There are two species of perennial kelp in our region so without checking the anchor shape (on the bottom) I can't identify which species this is.

Kelp On Beach
Definitely a sign I need to clean my lenses! The colour ramp on the wet sand is cool.

Wall with Stars and Anemone

This is the classic low tide scene - Purple stars (Pisaster Ochraceus), Giant Green Anemone (Anthopleura Xanthogrammica)
holding fast to the granite walls and Bull Kelp (Nereocystis Luetkeana) drifting in the current.

Black Turban (Black Tegula)

I'm having a tough time calling this one. It has some gunk on it but it doesn't have the worn
top a Black Turban is suposed to have. If it is a Black Turban, they are reported to live 80 to 100 years (or until
someone steps on it). It's on a piece of Giant Kelp (Giant Perennial Kelp) that it
was feeding on.

Purple Ring Top Snail on Giant Kelp

Ruth brought us a number of treats from the ocean. This piece of kelp had a few
snails on it.

Kayaking over Bullhead Kelp

We are kayaking in Shadwell Passage.  We came here looking for sea otters but didn't spot any.

Rocky Landing on Vansittart Island

This is the inland side of Vansittart Island - some what difficult to land
a Kayak and pretty much no where to camp.  We did find a Kayaking grounp
around the corner perched between the beach and the trees.

These sea weeds remind me of fall leaves.  A lot of these plants are Rock Weeds and
Small Perennial Kelp.

Sand Dollar with Kelp on Top

Qualicum beach is a great sandy beach.  We found a number of Sand Dollars
(or shells) in the beach and sand.
