Puffed Up Male Downy Woodpecker
I do like woodpeckers - the flash of red on a black and white body is quite striking. I was hoping for a more natural setting, but it didn't happen.
Species: Picoides pubescens (Downy Woodpecker)

Puffed Up Spotted Towhee
I'm thinking this is a female because of the more brown head.

Garter Snake Mouth Open
The tongue flicking is that the snake can grab particles and move them to sense organs in the mouth. Sometimes it just opens it's mouth to achieve the same effect. This snake was more than a meter away and completely harmless to me, but it still seems threatening.
Species: Thamnophis elegans terrestris (Coast Garter Snake)

Four Spotted Skimmer On Diagonal
1/25th of a second - I'm really surprised it is sharp.
Species: Libellula quadrimaculata (Four-spotted Skimmer)

Four Spotted Skimmer
shot f 14 trying to get enough depth of field to get from one wing to the other. Shot 1/60th of a second at 400asa. Still missed it - the focus point was probably the stem so I lost the wing closer and the bug is blurry. Good try, but fail.
Species: Libellula quadrimaculata (Four-spotted Skimmer)

Leaf Rotted To The Veins
Plants have an amazing tolerance to damage. I believe this is Salal.

Coopers Hawk
This is most likely a Coopers Hawk. It could also a Sharp shin. Tough to know.

Slider Pushing Up On Log
This is an introduced species (Pet store escape). This turtle should be found in Eastern north America, but it seems to do alright here. We have a local painted turtle (with a red ring around the shell).
Species: Trachemys scripta (Common Slider)
