Crab Climbing Wall
iNaturalist suggests this is a Grapsus albolineatus - mottled lightfoot crab, or in Chinese it is ????. This particular crab has had a tough life - he is missing a lot of legs.

Giant Crab
This is a pretty young area to hang out - the streets are lined with fast food shops and there are several covered shopping streets intersecting here. The restaurant with the giant crab is called Kani Doraku Dotonburi Honten . We wound up eating okonomiyaki close to here.

Crabs Shack
These Crabs are seasonal - usually available in the fall when they migrate and are easy to trap.

Cooked Crab
These are Chinese Mitten Crab. Native to Asia, apparently they are now invasive in California.

I believe these little guys scattered pretty quickly when you got close.
Species: Gecarcinus lateralis (blackback land crab)

Fiddler Crab In Mud
One of the signs in the Hong Kong Wetlands park had the scientific name for this species. Notice it has one big pincer for fighting and impressing the ladies and a small claw for eating.
Species: Uca arcuata (Fiddler crab)

Red Rock Crab
Cancer productus to it's friends. This one was in a very muddy bay among the rocks.

Northern Kelp Crab In Hand
This little guy moved around pretty fast, but liked the top of Mike's backpack. We found others when paddling - they were generally hanging on kelp. Pugettia producta.

Red Crab

From the shell and the little claws I think this is Red Crab.

One Arm Red Crab

I wonder how much chance this little guy has.  From the black tips, I guess
this is a Red Crab.

Dungeness Crab

This is the most commonly eaten crab.

Species: Cancer magister (dungeness crab)

Kelp Crab

This little guy is hiding.  We passed by some kelp but there were more
docks than kelp.

Anemone and Crab

One of my favorite shots - I think that's a red crab and an Anemone.

Species: Metridium farcimen (Giant Plumose Anemones)

Crab Shell on Sand

The crab shell has the same mottling that the beach sand has - I'm sure in a monocromatic vision
system, it's harder to see.

This is the second land crustacean in this area. He hid as soon as we stopped.
Species: Coenobita clypeatus (land hermit)

Land Crab Going Into Burrow
I had never seen a land crab before. This crab is quite a long way from beach (perhaps a km) but apparently they do return to breed.
Species: Gecarcinus ruricola (purple land crab)
