Painted Lady On Rock
This butterfly very rarely stopped moving.
Species: Vanessa cardui (painted lady)

Dragonfly With Nymph Skin
This isn't the dragonfly that just crawled out of the pond - the dragonflies liked this perch and regularly pushed each other off of it. I'm not even sure that is the skin of a dasher - there are other species of dragonflies in this pond.
Species: Pachydiplax longipennis (Blue Dasher)

Blue Dasher On Rolled Up Pond Lilly
Most dragonflies are territorial - these ones seemed to really enjoy fighting

Anise Swallowtail On Walkway
There were two of these Swallowtail and the painted lady at the top of the mountain and they were strongly interacting.

Banded Alder Borer On Log
I was really surprised to see this bug - I have never seen anything like it in Canada before. I've seen Macro/bug blogs online, mostly in tropical countries and I thought they have all the interesting insects. We aren't so bad.

This is a particularly hard life example - I've seen others around the office in much better shape.

Orange Winged Grasshopped
There were about two dozen of these flying along the trail close to the highway. It's hotter over there because there aren't trees. These do look like butterflies when they are flying.

Banded Alder Borer
This is a photoshop composite of two different images - stacked in focus. I just figured out how to do that in photoshop and now it's my new crutch.

Four Spotted Skimmer On End Of Reed

Pacific Fritillary On Sitka Valerian
I've been having a lot of trouble taking photos of butterflies recently - they just don't stop moving. This one did so I took lots of photos.

These butterflies were pretty common - we probably saw 6 durring our walk. This was the only one that stayed still long enough to take it's photo.

False Tiger Moth
I have seen these moths on my last few visit - they are large, brightly coloured and active during the day. I had tried taking photos while they were in flight, but they are so active I always failed. This trip I tried harder to find them on plants and had some luck!
Species: Dysphania militaris (False Tiger Moth)

Well Worn Purplish Copper
At the time I figured it was probably a European Skipper. I'm learning there are more butterflies that share the general size of skippers.
