Rain Lily
These weren't rare. White flowers are tricky - they are very easy to over expose. I was expecting this to be related to the Sagebrush Mariposa Lily, but it's not even closely related.

Featherleaf Desertpeony
I like to take two photos of plants - one is an identification shot that has the leaves and much more depth of field and a second that highlights the aspect of the plant I want to show. This is the second shot.

Wet Hardhack
This is more technically Spiraea douglasii var. roseata . It's quite common near ponds and streams in the lower alpine around here, but I never bothered to take a picture of it. Today I did.

Yellow Flowers On Shore
This flower is called common woolly sunflower or Oregon Sunshine. This is pretty much as far north as it grows.
Species: Eriophyllum lanatum (common woolly sunflower)

Great Burnet With Butterfly
The flower is quite striking. The butterfly was a nice touch. I thought this was a European Skipper at the time, but it quite clearly isn't.
Species: Sanguisorba officinalis (Great Burnet, official burnet), Lycaena mariposa (Mariposa Copper)

Checker Lily With Stamen
I like to see the detail in the stamens on these flower - it gives you a sense of what is going on under that umbrella.
Species: Fritillaria affinis (checker lily)

Checker Lily Flowers
I was really surprised to see these Checker Lilies Under the tree within sight of the ocean. Then I looked around - there was a smaller group of flowers under most trees close to the beach. Last time I saw these flowers was in the southern gulf islands.
Species: Fritillaria affinis (checker lily)

Iris In Front Of Blue Lake
Bright yellow is hard to expose correctly. Getting the water semi-transparent behind was a bonus.
Species: Iris pseudacorus (paleyellow iris, yellow flag)

Table Elements
My sister made up the candles and the flower basket (her preparation was nothing short of heroic), my mother lent the table cloths, my sisters class made the origami butterflies (600 of them!), and my dad put in the lights.

Large Red Flower
I believe this is an ornamental ginger.

Nootka Rose

This was one of the flowers that was growing in the patch behind our camp site.
I'm pretty sure this is a worn out example of Nootka Rose.  This is a shrub, not a wild flower.

Daisies with Picnic Table

This is classic BC Parks for me - a field of daisies, there trademark picnic tables
and a beautiful blue sky.

Common Red Paintbrush - Castilleja miniata

As we ascended up Hatchethead Mountain we encountered a clearing with Paintbrush.  As we continued to ascend,
the paintbrush thinned out and disappeared again.

Species: Castilleja miniata (Giant Red Indian Paintbrush)

Tiger Lily

This example of Lilium columbianum.  There is a superstition
(or so says my book) that smelling a tiger lily will give you freckles.

Species: Lilium columbianum (Columbian lily)
