One of my favorite plants and there was no shortage of it.

Brittle Prickly-Pear Cactus On Bluff
I had not idea these showed up in the Gulf Islands, but Plants of Coastal British Columbia confirms it. I figured this was a run away garden plant in zone denial.

Prickly Pear Cactus
This is in a field next to a winery - the field was infested with this stuff. The winery was mostly exposed earth save the grapes.

Turns out there are only four species of cactus that grow in Canada. This is the one that is most common in Alberta and the prairies.

Cactus Patch

A sign said the catus grows by the inch and dies by the foot. It was pretty common but if was close to the path it looked pretty ratty.
