In November 1959, this would have been a boiling lake of lava. In 1988 they found the lava had retreated to 300 feet below the surface. I have never entered such a strange landscape.
The surface of Kilauea Iki Crater has been pushed up places and some of the cracks emit warm air or moisture.
The hot spring water is much warmer than the surrounding water so it makes a nice fog bank as it run towards the bay.
These foggy hills are classic Clayquot Sound weather.
These are the cliffs overlooking Samson Narrows. That jut of land at the end is Maxwell Point.
I'm not really sure what I was going for with this. We'll see.
The clouds were blowing by and for brief periods of time you could see over to Vancouver Island.
