And some
clever quip...
Week in Victoria
We just got back from Tofino for the Canada Day Long weekend.

Saturna Island Day Trip
Saturna Island is the least populated of the major Gulf Islands
(Saltspring, Penders, Mayne and Galiano) serviced from Swartz
Bay. Being a less populated islands, it has fewer ferry trips
a day so if you want to make a day trip out of it, you need to be on
the 6:50am sailing. The ferry
is one of the smaller ones so there isn't hot breakfasts unless you
count hot water in a cup of oatmeal. By 8am we were pulling
into Lyall Harbour to begin our day of adventure!

Our first stop was Winter Point in the Gulf Islands National
Park. There is a lovely parking lot with nice picnic tables
and the best trail you can find in the Gulf Islands.

We walked out to Winter point to see Boat Passage - a narrow gap
between Saturna and Samuel Island where the tides cause whirlpools
and standing waves.

We drove back to the one general store on the island (which also has
a cafe on the side) to catch the opening of the Market. The
cafe had very nice breakfast sandwiches so we were happy to leave
some money behind. The market isn't larger - maybe 8 different
vendors - but the work showed a lot of effort. The National
Parks had a table there as well talking about shore nesting birds
and the activities out at East Point today.
