Eggs Cooking
Many of the hot springs were selling hard boiled eggs cooked in the spring water. These eggs were 50 yen each (70 cents Canadian) and included a little packet of salt. There was no sulfur taste.
Boiling Red Spring at Umi Jigoku
Umi Jigoku is known for it's sea-blue pool, but I found the more natural (and less steamy) rust coloured pool more attractive.

The strips on the ground are dams as part of the guide way for lava. I'm guessing that slowing the lava down will make it less likely to spill the banks.
